Multiple positions for DDA II or III (3 – 9 years)  $98,000 – $137,000 Annually 

Locations 

Mountain communities of Breckenridge and Leadville, Colorado both accessible to the Vail-Eagle County airport, Denver International Airport, and Denver cultural attractions and sporting events.

Our mission is to fairly and equitably uphold and enforce the laws of the State of Colorado and to seek justice in all cases.  Colorado’s 5th Judicial District is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and is home to nine major ski resorts.  The office has a staff of 40 employees including attorneys, investigators and support personnel, who are all passionate about keeping our small mountain communities safe and healthy.

Job Description

Experienced felony level Deputy District Attorneys are responsible for the criminal prosecution of felony offenses, and must appear in all criminal district court proceedings on behalf of the People of the State of Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in Colorado at the time of appointment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 3 – 9 years’ experience handling felony cases.
  • Knowledge in any specialized area of criminal law preferred (i.e., violent crimes, white collar crimes, organized crime, sexual assaults, juvenile crimes, appellate matters).

Duties

  • Represent the People in the 5th Judicial District in all district court matters.
  • Responsible for management of felony caseload from the filing of charges

through disposition, trial, and post-conviction matters.

  • Ensure that victims of crime are treated with dignity and respect, and that they

have a voice throughout all stages in the criminal justice system.

  • Provide mentorship and training to less experienced DDAs.
  • Provide legal advice and training to law enforcement. 
  • Engage in specialty assignments as requested  by the District Attorney (i.e.,

specialty courts, community engagement, POST teaching opportunities, on-call for homicides / officer involved shootings / human trafficking cases.)

Skills  and Responsibilities

  • Ability to maintain a heavy felony caseload.
  • Ability to handle extensive research and writing assignments including

responding to complex constitutional motions, novel legal issues, and mentoring less experienced DDAs’ research and writing assignments.

  • Ability to review and analyze arrest and search warrants from law enforcement.
    • Effective interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a high-stress environment, and

maintain professional relationships with co-workers, law enforcement, victims, defense counsel, court staff and officials, and the general public.

  • Must be committed to protecting the public and working to improve the criminal justice system.
