Nevada County Animal Control recovered hundreds of abused birds from a farm supply store outside Grass Valley last Thursday, the sheriff’s office announced Monday.
Approximately 360 birds rescued from Simply Country feed store in Rough and Ready are being treated for starvation and checked for disease, said Lt. Sam Brown of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. Inspectors also found 58 dead birds, four of whose remains were sent to UC Davis for necropsies.
A piglet purchased from Simply Country, formerly known as The Farm Store, was brought to an area veterinarian with dual ear infections that led to one having to be amputated.
