A senior at Cornell University is conducting an honors thesis research project titled “Ineffective Assistance of Counsel: Indigent Defendants in Post-conviction Capital Sentencing.” This study examines how legal professionals understand and apply the concept of ineffective assistance to counsel and their perceptions of its impact on capital case outcomes.
The research involves 60 90-minute Zoom interviews with 20 legal professionals, including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and other experts in the field. Participation in this study would provide valuable insights and contribute significantly to the research.
All interviews will adhere to ethical guidelines set by Cornell University’s Institutional Review Board, ensuring responses are anonymized and participants’ identities are protected.
If interested in assisting this research or for more information, please fill out the Qualtrics form provided. Additionally, if you know other professionals handling capital defense cases or working with indigent defendants who might be interested, please forward this message to them or share their contact information.
