Diversion and deflection programs are methods that need to be integrated into the criminal justice system. When applied correctly, the utilization of the multitude of application models are effective and dynamic, allowing for decreases in recidivism. However, the nuances of diversion and deflection programs leave room for ineffective utilization strategies, perpetuating the issues that the system is built to resolve. In this blogpost series, diversion and deflection program models, implementation strategies, and case studies will be dissected with the purpose of identifying their potential impact on public safety.
