Job Posting: Assistant Commonwealth Attorney II (Leesburg, VA)

Job Summary

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney II. This position will be responsible for preparing charging documents; reviewing evidentiary documents; issuing subpoenas; interviewing and preparing witnesses; performing legal research; responding to pre-trial and post-trial motions; conducting trial strategy; coordinating with victim-witness case manager; representing the Commonwealth in adjudications/trials, sentencing hearings, probation violation hearings, show cause hearings, etc. In addition, they will manage a misdemeanor and felony caseload. This position will evaluate and screen cases for disposal in District Court or indictment in Circuit Court.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school and two (2) years of related work experience as a licensed practicing attorney; license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia. Must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (ability to obtain a waiver of admission within a reasonable time is also acceptable, but should not exceed four (4) months). Continue legal education annually.
